For Ricky Chittleborough, working out at the gym is important for his health and vital for his great passion in life – playing basketball.
Ricky, 19, applied for a Community Living and Participation Grant to fund a gym membership at Craigie Leisure Centre so he can maintain his fitness and keep his spot on the WA under-20s Ivor Burge men’s team.
He has been hitting the gym several times a week and training hard in preparation to travel to Sydney in February for the Ivor Burge National Championships. The competition is an opportunity for players with an intellectual disability to represent their State.
‘’Working out at the gym keeps me healthy and it also helps my sport because it gives me confidence to handle the ball and maintain muscle development,’’ Ricky says.
Managed by National Disability Services and funded by Lotterywest, the Community Living and Participation Grant program funds projects to help people with disability engage with their community and improve their quality of life.
Ricky’s dream is to one day travel to the United States to watch his beloved NBA team the Golden State Warriors in action.
